PS5 Review

*Disclaimer: I was sent the code for this game on PS5 in return for a review; all opinions are mine and mine alone.

Recycling is important. Where I live, we are encouraged to recycle as much as we possibly can, so I thought, why not give it a go in the game world? It can't be that hard, can it? Luckily, I was right. Recycling Center Simulator allows players to run their own center and profit from what they collect. The game breaks down what you need to do, and you pick up the pace fairly fast. Make a collection, bring it back, sort it and arrange a deal. When I went to my first pick up, it was a tad annoying going back and forth to collect the rubbish for the truck, but you soon learn you can throw the rubbish at a distance into the back of the truck.

Menu options from sound to graphics

Once you've learnt the ropes, it's time to start earning money to buy equipment. Hop on over to the PC and look up what job offers are available to you, negotiate a price or simply accept what they have offered. I personally like to push it and go as low as I possibly can. Get in your truck and go to the location. Now, this bit gets a bit boring; it's quite mundane, and the locations don't really look much different from each other. Collecting rubbish isn't that fun, and I would try and get it done as fast as I could to get back to the center.

Offloading what you have just collected can be a bit boring too. This is why being able to hire someone to do the job is a bit of a relief; not only can they offload, but they can also sort it for you. The sorting machine works by placing the rubbish onto a conveyor belt, coming out the other end, and you/the worker, pick which bits of rubbish go into each colour-coded bin. The colour coding system is what keeps everything in place and helps you work out what goes where before it needs to be shipped off.

You will find yourself at the PC more than anything. Making deals is a huge part of the game, from selling off what you have sorted through to using machines to crush the recycling down or even shred any paper collected. Doing any of that requires money, as I mentioned before. Some deals will require you to shred 50 loads of paper and load them up for collection, which means completing as many jobs as you can to collect what you need. There will be a lot of back and forth, if you're the kind of person who loves to repeat tasks; then it will keep players occupied. I have a few friends who like tasks like this and will become hooked on completing everything in-game for trophies and achievements.

Scrap Deals

Due to the game focusing solely on recycling, the graphics and surroundings are pretty plain and simplistic. I guess this keeps your mind on the job; you won't get distracted by much else when there is not much else to look at. I neither like nor dislike the game; it wasn't groundbreaking, kept me entertained for a while, it would have been nice to have some sort of roads and streets to collect any recycling left out by people whilst driving around. Recycling Center Simulator is available on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
