Sophie finding evidence on the wall

Working in housekeeping comes with its perks, but it can also put you at the centre of a lot of drama. Imagine going about your day working in a hotel when a mystery starts to unfold. Do you ignore it, or do you proceed to find out what is actually going on? My nosy ass would have to investigate, even knowing it could get me into trouble, which is exactly why this game was perfect for me. Set in 1958 in Montreal, Canada, Sophie Roy is working a normal shift a few days after Valentine's Day weekend. The hotel hosted a Valentine's ball, and what's left of it is still waiting to be cleaned. Sophie makes it clear that she won't be doing that but feels sorry for the person who has to.

Sophie Roy, 21,  presents herself in a very calm manner; her uniform looks smart, as does her appearance. She seems to pride herself on representing herself at work, but underneath it all she is a bit of a snoop; not only does she go through the guests' belongings, but she also listens in on conversations; this is something that will help her in the long run. She keeps herself to herself mostly, reading her gossip magazines whilst other staff members make sly jokes about her. She doesn't care; she's there to work and get on with what needs to be done.

Throughout the game, we get to meet different staff members and guests and learn all about who they are; some have secrets you don't intend on stumbling upon. One of the main members of staff you work with is called Beth, and the other is Andrew. You can pick either of these to be your acolyte in the game; I picked Beth. She works as the receptionist and tells Sophie what needs to be done. It's a good thing they have a friendly relationship, as she will be helping Sophie throughout the game. She has no judgment when it comes to Sophie snooping, especially when Sophie tells her a guest has caught her and taken photographic evidence. From this moment on, Sophie stumbling upon these photos sets off a chain of events that leads to something she would never expect to happen.

crack the code find out what the note says

I won't go into much more detail with the storyline because it's quite a short game, and it will ruin it for the players. Instead, let's talk about what the game entails. The game is described as a narrative-driven walking simulator; it really doesn't feel like one, especially with the dialogue, puzzles and mystery murder side of things, which I loved. I am a big fan of games where you have to solve a case, and the puzzles used within This Bed We Made were very clever yet easy enough for me to solve. On top of this, your actions have consequences; whether that is putting a key back where you found it or the dialogue you choose to select, it will all decide how the game ends for you.

Sophie outside break room

One of my favourite types of puzzle in the game was cracking a code, not the safe codes but word codes. Finding hidden messages and how to uncover them was done quite well; it forced me to look around the room a lot more closely, so much so that at times I forgot that I was meant to be cleaning the rooms. Once I did remember, it only took a few minutes to get the job done; if only it were that simple in real life, right? The game flowed very well; I never felt stuck and was able to play at my own pace. I liked being able to listen in on Sophie's thoughts and being given hints by them whenever I was stuck. I'd say the voice actors chosen fit very well with the era. I don't know about anyone else, but in certain eras, people sound a certain way; they come across as very formal.

Since finishing, I need more. Currently, the DLC called Lost & Found: A This Bed We Made story isn't available on PS5, but I'm quite excited to play it. I need some more mystery in my life in the same style as This Bed We Made; the style reminded me of LA Noire, which is one of my favourites to go back and replay. It took me around 2 hours to finish; in that time, I had a wonderful experience. I never came across any glitches or anything that hindered me from progressing; it was pretty smooth sailing. This Bed We Made is available on: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows and Steam. Enjoy the mystery unfold.
