PS5 Review
*Disclaimer: I was sent the code for this game on PS5 in return for a review; all opinions are mine and mine alone.

As far as spooky games go, I have the perfect one for you all, yes, it's a bit late now, Halloween is over, but why can't spookiness happen all year round, right? Cursed New Year is an immersive game that lasts around 30 minutes; it felt a lot shorter to me, to be honest. The game takes place solely in a family home where a tragedy has taken place. All looks fine until you start delving deeper into each room. The family of three is getting ready to celebrate New Year's, something that is usually meant to bring joy and new beginnings, but all is not what it seems.
The family is made up of a mother, a father and a daughter called Sarah. It comes across as if things have become very toxic and hostile, and not a great place for a child to be. The story unfolds via notes you find around the house. I would say the game is literally a walking simulator with a small number of puzzles that are simple and obvious to solve. The house is pretty small and simplistic, and I ended up finding my way around quite quickly.

Whilst walking around, there were jump scares, which became unexpected, and I jumped out of my skin. Wearing headphones greatly enhanced the experience, making it more immersive. Cursed New Year is set out to force you to explore it a certain way; there is nothing else to see or find until you choose a certain room. I would keep double-checking every inch of the house to make sure there wasn't anything hidden, and there never was. It would have been nice if we were given collectables to find.

Parts of the game were weird, such as dark spaces even when turning on the lights, the lighting didn't quite reach that spot, maybe this was done on purpose, who knows? I also felt like there could have been a more in-depth story to open up from the game, maybe look into the character's memories in a different way, yet at the same time, it felt like the house was being haunted by heartbreak with the way it plays out. This was a very easy platinum for those who are trophy collectors. I enjoyed the game to an extent, but I wish there were more to it.
