I purchased my first Kindle back in 2013; it was a very small Kindle Fire in blue. Unfortunately, it became very slow, and I discovered someone had scratched an L into the screen, making it hard to read as the writing was affected. I was pretty devastated, as it was the perfect size screen for reading on. I had bought myself one in blue and my sister a pink one. Then, in 2018, my fiancé bought a Kindle Fire HD 10, and the apps began to be discontinued on it; and it was too large for me to read on. I used to use it to write my reviews when my laptop broke, but now I use my Chromebook. After my friend Krista told me about how many Kindle devices were on Amazon, I had a look myself and decided to treat myself to one. I'm glad I did, as it was a much-needed purchase in the end.

I went with the Kindle 11 gen from 2024 in matcha green. I wanted something small enough to carry around with me, with nothing fancy attached. Sure, I could have gone with the black one, but come on, that matcha green is just too cute. It cost me £94.99, which is a brilliant price in my opinion. It came the next day, I knew it needed a case and to be pink, so I made a purchase of a Kindle case, stickers, a Kindle buddy and a pop socket so I could hold on to it more easily. The 6-inch screen makes it the perfect little reading buddy to keep with you without taking up much space in your bag, which is what I wanted to be honest. I was contemplating between a Kindle and a Kobo; in the end, I preferred the look of the Kindle.

When it arrived, it was in the smallest brown box. I forgot just how big and light it was going to be. I'm used to using something much heavier, so it was a pleasant surprise for me. It came with a charger (USB-A to USB-C), but came with no instructions; I had to look these up online. They were fairly easy to find. I had ordered the device via my fiancé's Prime, which gave us the option to set it up with his email. Obviously, this was not practical as I needed mine, it was quite easy to set mine up; I just needed to register it with my own Amazon account once I had connected it to my Wi-Fi.

After it was all set up and I accessed my library, I got to grips with how everything worked. The first thing I wanted to find out was how to change font size. The other day, I was watching a TikTok about a book club that all brought their Kindles with them, and they were laughing at what size font everyone had their font. Mine changes depending on the book I'm reading; it's currently on font size 3. You can also change the theme from customised (which is what I use), compact, standard or large. To access this, you press the top of the Kindle screen in book mode and click on Aa. This will also allow you to change your layout and give you several other options for the pages you're reading.

This Gen Kindle comes with a backlight, it's glare-free, and you can turn the light up or down to suit your reading needs, or set it to auto brightness, which will adapt to the light around you. This was one of the features I wanted to have the most. Sitting in the sun whilst being able to still see my screen is a must-have, I can still enjoy the sun and enjoy reading at the same time, it's a win-win situation. E-readers are more popular than ever right now, and the features we have to access our books in the digital age will either make our reading experience a good one or ruin it. One great feature about my Kindle is how long the battery life is. I can go for weeks without charging it and read for hours. I wish my phone was like this! The time it takes to fully charge is something like 2 hours, which is nothing compared to how much reading time you can get out of it.
The 16GB memory is perfect for me. I try not to download too many books from my library at once, which forces me to finish my current reads that way. I can also automagically add my current read to Goodreads; this can be toggled on and off easily. I'm not a fan of having to pay to remove ads just because I chose the cheaper version of the Kindle; it forces you to pay a fee for this. However, when I check my devices via my Amazon account, it tells me I have a warranty of 1 year, which covers damages or faults to the device, and they will either repair or send a new one out.

I've had my little E-reader since July 3rd, I can honestly say it's forced me to read more, and I've managed to finish 18 books this year so far, this does include physical books too, though. If you're on the fence about buying one, especially as you buy physical books, I would say it's still worth it. You can read the books digitally, and if you love them, add them to your physical collection. I read a lot of smut and don't have the room for physical books of them, and an e-reader makes that issue go away. I will be changing the case I have to another that people have gone wild for, it can turn into a stand and has a MagSafe ring on too. Do you have a Kindle or did you go for a different kind of e-reader?
