Android Review

It's been a while since I reviewed a mobile game so it's about time I wrote a review on one right? Today's pick is a game by Freakout Games called Solbot: Energy Rush, Freakout games reached out to me and asked me if I would like to give it a go and review it and I was more than happy to (The game is free in the app store I wasn't compensated in any way for it). Before I said I would give it a go I decided to check it out and make sure it was my kind of game as there is no point in reviewing something that I know I won't like. Freakout Games who are an indie games studio have developed a number of games and out of them all Solbot energy appealed to me the most, other games include; Dice Cricket, Freaky Dungeon, and Freaky Tup.

Solbot game is very simple, your goal is to collect the orbs which match the colour suit you're wearing, the orbs are a renewable energy source which you have been given the task to collect, the colour orb which you are collecting will have a gold ring around it to make it easier for the player to find and collect. In order to get to them, you will have to tap whichever side of the screen they are on whilst avoiding orbs that are different colours, once you hit one of them the game is over and you will have to restart the level or you can play it from where you left off with the keys you collect, in order to get these keys you will be prompted to click on a notification after reading a fact which is great for educational purposes.

I did die a fair few times throughout the game but I got through all 50 levels faster than I hoped, I wanted them to be a little harder and faster but at the same time, the speed at which the Solbot moves is great to help hand-eye coordination and reaction time especially in younger people. It's easier to keep up with because the backdrop is always a darker colour than the orbs and Solbot which makes you focus solely on collecting the orbs you need. Between collecting orbs there are laser levels where you need to avoid the lasers for a certain amount of seconds, this was a nice addition and a change from just having to collect orbs all the time.

At times you will find yourself having to get 50 orbs and the game does challenge you by placing other orbs close together and making it harder to get by but luckily it includes shields, magnets, being able to slow down time and even being able to turn all the orbs to the colour ones you're collecting but only for a set amount of time and only once you have collected those specific sources. The thing to remember in this game is that timing is everything if you stop concentrating you will crash and have to keep repeating the level until you get the number of orbs you were given the task to collect. When I first started the game I was allowed to choose a name for myself as well as choose my own avatar, this is a cool feature as there is an option to see the scoreboard and I got to see my name ranked at 20 by the time I finished.

What drew me to finish this game is that it's easy to follow, it has some nice banter between Solbot and his commander and it doesn't try too hard, I hadn't played a mobile game in a while due to factoring restoring my phone so it was nice to play something that wasn't the usual kind of game I play (I love cute mobile games). Overall It's an enjoyable game and I liked the facts it included if you're a casual gamer you're bound to like it! I'm currently waiting for more levels to be added, I give this game 4/5 stars.

If you're interested in checking it out and playing it, you can download it from the Apple and Google Play store for free.
