Nintendo Switch 2 Review

*Disclaimer: I was sent the code for this game on Nintendo Switch 2 in return for a review; all opinions are mine and mine alone.

I love nooks, I have always dreamed of having a big corner filled with all my favourite things and making it into the ultimate place to be. This is why I have small nooks scattered around my house, one where I sit in the living room, the one next to my bed and one in my gaming room. They are the ultimate chill places for gaming, reading and much more. It's even more of an upside being able to create my own nook in the gaming world, especially when it comes to choices of how big we want a room and if we want outside space; it's like a little slice of what we crave in the real world.

Pocket Nook is described as a place where you design charming pixel art, where you can shift around and customise furniture. I was a little confused when I first started to place. I found the button layout to be a bit annoying, so I concentrated on learning what to do as I kept accidentally deleting each object I placed in the room. Once I got the grasp of it, I was solely focused on building my own little cosy world. I was so immersed in what I was doing, it was great. There are quite a lot of features to choose from:

  • 65 wallpapers with a different look
  • 80+ styles for the flooring150+
  • furniture options to reflect your style
  • 100+ items for decoration
  • 20+ different ways to light your space
  • 32 outdoor elements to give it a nature feel
  • 32 characters to live in and bring your space to life

Each of these elements can bring a space together; you can add as much or as little as you want. Before doing so, you can have 20 room slots and slide through the layout plans that fit your fancy that day. Some are big, some are small, but they are simplistic enough to customise how you choose. I actually didn't realise I could choose the layout until I was on the second save. I was pretty excited to see I could have an outdoor space, especially as I'm an amateur gardener and could create a dream green space of my own, although I did feel the plant selection for outside was lacking compared to all the other features included.

The added upside of being able to change the style of music you listen to whilst playing was a nice touch, not everyone wants to listen to the same kind when they are playing music. There is also a feature to turn the lights on or off within your cosy place, which gives it an ambience. I would often turn the lights off and let the lamps and overhead lights give my rooms a soft glow whilst I carried on creating.

I love creating my own visual art. I may not be very good at it at times, yet I managed to create something fun and cosy that I personally put together using the tools given by this game, and as I said, it can easily suck you in, so an hour will fly by in no time. Pocket Nook is just over £7 on the Nintendo store. You can buy 2 DLCs for it, which are £1.79, very reasonable for a game like this. I would happily pay for the added features. I highly recommend Pocket Nook for a relaxing, peaceful game to play. I know how overwhelming the Christmas season can be, and this is a perfect way to get lost and take time to breathe away from it all.
